A 10-kilogram belt made of pure gold. Ten million yuan on the table. No, that's not a movie plot — it's what's actually at stake in URKL's first season. If you're just discovering the league, our explainer on what URKL is covers the basics; here we answer the question everyone asks next: how much do winners win?
What the champion actually wins
URKL announced at its February 2026 launch that its first-season champion takes home a 10-kilogram pure gold championship belt — instantly one of the most expensive trophies in sports. The belt headlines a total prize pool of 10 million yuan, roughly $1.4 million.
For comparison, that's the kind of money that turns a university robotics club into a professional operation overnight — which is precisely the point.
Who gets the money
Not the robot — the team. Every URKL competitor fights with the same standardized EngineAI T800 machine, so the prize rewards what actually decides fights: software, fight algorithms, armor setup within the rules, and tactics. (We broke down how URKL fights are won separately.)
Thirty-two finalist teams are in the running this season, selected from a global pool of over 200 applicants. The field mixes elite universities — Tsinghua, Zhejiang, the University of Hong Kong, Stanford, UC Berkeley — with private stables, all chasing the same belt.
When will it be won
The season is already underway: qualifiers kicked off right after the July 16, 2026 opening night in Shenzhen, with regular-season matches at the Longgang FRL Robot Club. The road runs through group stages and double-elimination playoffs to a global grand final around December 2026 to January 2027 — that's when the gold belt finds its first owner.
Why the prize matters
A seven-figure pool and a solid gold belt are a statement: URKL wants to be treated as a real sport, not a tech demo. Serious money pulls in serious teams, serious teams push the robots harder, and harder fights make a better show. Everybody wins — especially the crowd.
